Strathfield Lung Service

Strathfield Private Hospital has established a dedicated Lung Service and Rapid Access Lung Screening Program, in partnership with medical specialists and Lumus Imaging. This program was established following the launch of the Australian Government’s National Lung Cancer Screening Program in July 2025 to help detect lung cancer earlier in people at increased risk.

Strathfield Private Hospital offers a clear pathway from screening through to diagnosis and treatment, including triage of significant scan results, fast access to respiratory specialists, and coordinated diagnostic and treatment pathways.

We know efficient, timely treatment is important to you, which is why we can offer a two-week turnaround from a diagnosis of lung cancer to commencement of treatment. Our care model brings together diagnostic services, specialist consultations, multidisciplinary clinical review and treatment planning into a streamlined pathway designed to improve the patient experience.

You may qualify for screening if you:

  • Are aged 50-70 years
  • Are currently smoking or quit within the past 10 years
  • Have smoked the equivalent of 30 pack-years or more
  • Do not currently have symptoms of lung cancer

Our screening program connects you with coordinated services to support early diagnosis and appropriate care:

  • Low-dose CT scan (bulk-billed) at Lumus Imaging
  • GP support throughout the process and individualised care, guided by expert review
  • Timely results and national record-keeping
  • Rapid access to respiratory specialists
  • Support from the full range of hospital services at Strathfield Private Hospital

What to expect: Your screening journey

  1. Visit your GP to check your eligibility.
  2. If eligible, your GP will refer you for a low-dose CT scan.
  3. Attend your scan at a Lumus Imaging clinic.
  4. Results go directly to your GP, who will guide any follow-up.
  5. If further assessment is needed, Strathfield Private Hospital’s lung and respiratory specialists will provide coordinated, personalised care and ongoing support.
