Strathfield Breast Service

Strathfield Private Hospital’s comprehensive Breast Service and Rapid Access Breast Screening Program provide a coordinated pathway for the diagnosis and treatment of breast disease.

The hospital offers a dedicated Rapid Access Breast Screening Program, in partnership with medical specialists and Lumus Imaging. This care model brings together diagnostic services, specialist consultations, multidisciplinary clinical review and treatment planning into a streamlined pathway designed to improve the patient experience.

We know efficient, timely treatment is important to you, which is why we can provide assessment, imaging and biopsy on the same day. The Strathfield Breast Service offers a nine-day turnaround from a diagnosis of breast cancer to commencement of treatment, however this time is often reduced to just 24 – 48 hours.

The services we provide include:

  • Breast assessment and monitoring – our highly trained breast specialists can provide rapid assessment of breast symptoms, as well as ongoing monitoring and follow-up care. The hospital also offers a second opinion service.
  • Breast Imaging – we use the latest digital mammography and high resolution ultrasound technology to provide thorough breast screening, lesion workup and surveillance. We also provide the option of the Savi Scout Tissue Sparing technology.
  • Interventional Radiology – we provide same-day service for urgent diagnostic biopsies under stereotactic or ultrasound guidance.
  • Breast Surgery – our experienced surgeons provide a comprehensive range of surgical options to treat benign and malignant disease. This ranges from excisional surgery with breast conservation and breast remodelling, to skin-sparing or standard mastectomy, as well as sentinel node biopsy with access to immediate frozen section analysis.
  • Reconstructive Surgery – our plastic surgeons can provide multiple breast reconstruction options, from prosthetic (implant-based) to autologous (your own tissue), and immediate or delayed reconstruction. We also offer other aesthetic options after cancer surgery, including risk-reducing mastectomy with reconstruction, symmetrisation surgery, fat grafting, and nipple-areolar complex reconstruction.
  • Breast Care Liaison – our breast care liaison provides ongoing support throughout your stay and beyond, assisting you at any stage during or after your treatment.
  • Genetic Testing – we can provide access to genetic counselling services for females and males at high-risk of familial breast cancer.
  • Multi-disciplinary Approach – we leverage the collective expertise of breast and plastic surgeons, breast physicians, radiologists, pathologists, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, breast care researchers and liaison to discuss optimal patient management on a case-by-case basis.
