Shannon Reid is a Gynaecologist, Advanced Laparoscopic Surgeon and Gynecological Ultrasound Specialist. She is the founder and medical director of Sonacare Women's Health and Ultrasound, a specialist gynaecology centre that provides a wide range of ultrasound and gynaecological services for women of all ages. She is a conjoint Associate Professor at Western Sydney University and a member of the World Endometriosis Society.
Shannon completed a fellowship in Endometriosis, Pelvic Pain and Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery at the BC Women's Center for Pelvic Pain and Endometriosis (University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada). She performs laparoscopic surgery to the highest skill level (AGES Level 6), including excision of advanced stage endometriosis. She also specialises in gynaecological ultrasound, with expertise in the diagnosis of endometriosis, adenomyosis and ovarian cysts, as well as early pregnancy complications.
She is internationally recognised for her research work in endometriosis and has published over 50 peer reviewed research papers. She has authored several book chapters, most recently in the book ‘How to perform ultrasonography in Endometriosis’.
She offers her patients an all-inclusive gynaecological care plan, which includes a detailed pre-operative pelvic ultrasound or endometriosis scan (using the gel SVG technique), as well as performing advanced laparoscopic procedures for the treatment of uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts and severe endometriosis.
