Dr Katherine Zhu is general surgeon with special interest in colorectal surgery - specializing in minimally invasive surgery, including robotic surgery. Dr Zhu treats all aspects of colorectal surgery, including colorectal cancer, polyps, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticular disease and anorectal conditions (such as hemorrhoids, rectal prolapse, anal fissures and fistulae). Dr Zhu performs endoscopy (gastroscopy and colonoscopy), as well as general surgery procedures (including hernia repair and gallbladder surgery).
Dr Zhu graduated from the University of New South Wales with Honors. She completed General Surgical training at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne and was awarded Fellowship to the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2015.
Dr Zhu is a member of the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia & New Zealand (CSSANZ). Dr Zhu has post-fellowship sub-specialty training in colorectal surgery from Wollongong Hospital, The Alfred Hospital Melbourne and Concord General & Repatriation Hospital. She has completed a further robotic colorectal surgery fellowship at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.
Academically, Dr Zhu has a Masters of Surgery in Colorectal Surgery from the University of Sydney, in association with the Institute of Academic Surgery at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. In addition to multiple scientific publications, Dr Zhu is a reviewer for the Australia & New Zealand Journal of Surgery. Dr Zhu is also on the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons trainee
