Dr Katherine Zhu is a specialist colorectal surgeon, offering expertise in both benign and malignant conditions of the colon and rectum. She has extensive experience in minimally invasive surgery. Dr Zhu also treats anorectal conditions (such as haemorrhoids, anal fissures, abscess and fistulae). Dr Zhu performs diagnostic and interventional gastroscopy and colonoscopy, as well as general surgical procedures (such as hernia repair and gallbladder surgery).
Dr Zhu is a member of the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia & New Zealand (CSSANZ). Following obtaining Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Fellowship in General Surgery from St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne, she undertook post-fellowship sub-specialist training in colorectal surgery at Wollongong Hospital. Subsequently, Dr Zhu trained under the CSSANZ at The Alfred Hospital Melbourne and Concord General & Repatriation Hospital. Through sub-specialty training, Dr Zhu gained comprehensive expertise in the management of all aspects of colorectal surgery, as well as complex minimally invasive surgical techniques.
Academically, Dr Zhu has a Masters of Colorectal Surgery from the University of Surgery, in association with the Institute of Academic Surgery at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. In addition to multiple scientific publications, Dr Zhu is a reviewer for the Australia & New Zealand Journal of Surgery.
