Important COVID-19 update from Strathfield Private Hospital
26 July 2021
We were notified by the NSW Public Health Unit on Wednesday 21 July that there was a confirmed positive case of COVID-19 in a staff member who was potentially infectious at Strathfield Private Hospital on Saturday 17 and Monday 19 July. The staff member was asymptomatic, and the positive test result was identified during routine surveillance testing.
We immediately supported the Public Health Unit by assisting with contact tracing and identifying all close and casual contacts. We also notified our doctors, staff members, and affected patients and their families about the positive test result when we were made aware on Wednesday 21 July.
All close and casual contacts have since returned negative COVID-19 tests. Close contacts remain in isolation and have undergone further testing, returning a second set of negative results. We will continue to support the staff member concerned, whilst ensuring we maintain the need to respect their privacy.
We have implemented a comprehensive pandemic management plan which includes very rigorous measures to keep our patients and our health care workers safe. This includes surveillance testing, screening, robust infection prevention and control protocols, cleaning procedures and contact tracing. We are also restricting visitors and non-essential contractors and have increased use of PPE in some situations to protect patients and health care workers.
All our actions and robust protocols to protect the safety and wellbeing of our patients, staff and visitors are aligned with the NSW Public Health Unit and NSW Health Clinical Excellence Commission Guidelines. In this current outbreak in NSW, we are also following the large number of surveillance testing requirements that are in place for doctors and hospital staff in high risk areas. Requirements are also in place for COVID-19 patient testing and management to ensure the safety of patients and health care workers.
It is the decision of New South Wales Health as to whether they release details of case locations that are subject to a public health alert. Strathfield Private Hospital has not been classified as a transmission venue of concern.
The hospital will continue to provide updates to patients, staff and the community as more information becomes available. We thank you for your support during this time.
