Strathfield surgeons are leading the way in Australian Robotic Surgery with two doctors performing Australia’s first upper GI surgery procedure using the da Vinci robot.

Drs David Martin and Michael Talbot performed this Australian-first procedure in October. Several procedures have been performed since, using the robot including the robotic gastric sleeve, robotic hiatus hernia repair and Nissan Fundoplication and robotic gastric bypass. All cases were highly successful.

“Robotic GI Surgery allows the surgeon to have a significantly greater range of movement and dexterity within the abdominal cavity when compared to conventional keyhole surgery,” Dr Martin stated.
