Dr Sanjay Patel graduated from the University of Sydney with first class honours and completed his general cardiology training at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in 2005.
His PhD, supported by a National Heart Foundation Scholarship, in High Density Lipoprotein biology was awarded in 2008. Following this, Dr Patel undertook a fellowship in interventional cardiology at Stanford University, California, while simultaneously pursuing postdoctoral research in novel stem cell therapies.
He currently practices as an interventional and general cardiologist and his research interests include ongoing stem cell studies, through collaboration with Stanford University, and the Heart Research Institute, Sydney, where he is a Visiting Scientist. He is also involved with research underpinning inflammatory processes in atherosclerotic plaque at the University of Sydney, where he supervises PhD and Honours students.
Dr Patel has a longstanding commitment to teaching medical students, residents and registrars. He currently mentors two Basic Physician Trainees and is an Examiner for the RACP Clinical Examination.
