Strathfield Private Hospital History

• 1989 - opened as a Private Hospital.
• Previously it was a Psych, Drug and Alcohol Unit
• 1990 - Strathfield became a special teaching hospital of the University of Sydney.
• From that date it participated in nursing and medical training with students at the hospital from the University.
• 1991 - Professor Douglas Baird - Chairman of CSAHS began the first private sector cardiac surgery at Strathfield Private.
• 1993 - Angiography suite was commissioned
• 1996 - new East wing was commissioned along with the 5th operating theatre.
• 2003 - newly refurbished Day Stay Unit was opened.
• 2004 - newly refurbished ward (1W) was finished
• 2006 - newly refurbished ward (Ground Floor) was finished
• 2006 - Refurbishment of foyer, courtyard and new Café opened
